Making Simple Furniture from Salvaged Wood

I convert fun ideas into Projects that accumulate in Lists and then I’ve got a heap of Projects I have to do which stresses me out and makes me feel overwhelmed. Inevitably I realize what I’ve done and I say:

“Hey, wait a second! I don’t have to do any of this stuff! None of this actually matters! I’m free!”

And so I delete my long List and go read a book or make faces at a baby that happens to be hanging around my place.

And then some afternoon I’ll think something like y’know what’d be fun? It’d be fun to build a chair right now. And so I do.

After I finish it I remember that I probably had ‘build a chair out of salvaged wood’ on a List at some point, and I shrug to myself.

I made this chair out of salvaged truss wood I found in town for free.

The sides are rectangular trusses, I just added the three horizontal boards and the seat and back boards.

This is probably the first thing I’ve built as an adult that I didn’t model in 3d first.

October 20th, 2023 Update

This morning Jack said “Hey lets bust out some more of those chairs.’

Why not? We spent a pleasant morning in the shop, took a midday break for coffee and omelets, and polished off the new chairs by early afternoon.

In the same amount of time it took me to build the first one, Jack and I made three together.
