I answer questions about money, and a new two-wheel adventure

In last fortnight's Letter I asked you to send in questions, and you sent in some great ones. Here are my first batch of answers, on the topic of money.

Send more questions! This is working well on my end, so hopefully you find the answers/discussion generated interesting.

Remember, I am a Test Subject

I think of myself as something of a guinea pig, or scout (or crash dummy). So when I'm answering questions about how I think about money or how I'm organizing my life strategy, I don't mean to present it as something that is tried and tested and fit for mass production. My life is highly experimental.

My hope is that people can find inspiration, insight, or warning from the notes I leave behind that inform their decisions about their lives. My fear is that someone might try to just copy what I'm doing without understanding the thinking behind it or my personal relationship with risk, have a bad time with it, and become disillusioned.

I should also highlight that I change my mind all the time. I make plans, and then I drop them and adopt other plans, and then I drop the activity of planning altogether and adopt a process-oriented internal guidance system, and then tune and tweak and refine my process....

Time to hit the road again

Speaking of changing plans, I've got another two-wheeled trip coming up soon. I formulated the idea for this trip about a month ago and have been jamming to execute it.

Plan A was to fix my old motorcycle (which has been non-operational since September 2021). I tore it apart and was having so much fun digging into the engine internals that I decided I didn't want to rush the job in order to be ready for my trip.

So I bought another (used) motorcycle from a guy in Fresno. A bike that will be *much* more appropriate for the kind of ride I'm going on than my 250cc dual sport. I'll do the trip on the 500cc and then either resell it when I get back or decide to make it my main bike, and sell the 250 after I'm done rebuilding it.

Also, now I want to build a motorcycle garage here at Quail Haven, because wrenching is *fun* and I don't have a good space for it. (These build projects are why I haven’t hit TTM5k yet. Ah, well.)
